Very Rev. Gary Mensinger and all the parishioners invite everyone – neighbors, friends, and families — to a delicious meal in support of our church.
St. Michael Church begin with an idea in 1911 and was built upon the personal sacrifices and strong desire of immigrants from Eastern Europe. Those early founders longed to have a place of worship in the traditions of their Carpatho-Rusyn ancestry. Most came from what is today eastern Slovakia and western Ukraine. Having a church of their own in coming from a region without a country of their own was essential to form community to express their faith.
Today, that relationship of family and friends extends outward to all in the Greater Pittston area and beyond. St. Michael Church has become much more than an ethnic church, to one that welcomes all to see the splendor of not only the beautiful iconography within its walls, but to worship in the inspiring Eastern traditions of the Catholic Church.
The support the church receives with special events is instrumental to ensure St. Michael Church will shine as a treasure in the community well into the future. We thank all !
In gratitude. the parish family remembers its origins and patron saint!
St. Michael is an archangel known as the guardian angel of the people of God and the protector of the Church. He is also the patron saint of police officers, soldiers, doctors and emergency workers, firefighters, paramedics, and mariners.
*** Pray to St. Michael for protection ***
+ for protection of the Church
+ for all who are persecuted
+ for our pastors and all in ministry
+ for families and children everywhere
+ for those suffering in any way and those nearing death
+ for personal strengthening of faith
+ for protection from the destructive forces in our world today
that are attempting to entice and distract people
away from all that is good, moral, and from God.
